Nigeria’s National Economic Council (NEC) has urged state governments to patronize technological innovations developed by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). This move aims to fast-track Nigeria’s industrialization.
According to a press release signed by Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Director of Information at NASENI, the call was made during the 146th NEC meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting followed a presentation by NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, outlining the agency’s strategic roadmap for Nigeria’s industrialization.
NASENI’s focus areas include renewable energy, health and biotechnology, agriculture, sustainable transportation, digital technology, construction, and defence. The agency sought NEC’s support to establish manufacturing industries in states, access local raw materials, and streamline processes related to land and seaport facilitation.
The agency has made significant innovations in energy security, including electric vehicles, solar home systems, and smart devices. NASENI aims to transform Nigeria into a global innovation powerhouse through technology transfer and product commercialization.
The NEC meeting resolved to support NASENI’s efforts in driving local manufacturing and industrial development. The agency has attracted $3.23 billion in investments and launched initiatives such as the DELT-Her program for female engineers. NASENI remains committed to working with states and the private sector to unlock Nigeria’s potential for industrial innovation and sustainable development.
