Manchester City’s woes continued as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Etihad Stadium. The loss marked City’s fifth consecutive defeat, their worst run since 2006 and ended their 52-match unbeaten record at home.
James Maddison scored twice, with Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson adding further goals in an incredible night for Tottenham. The victory was a remarkable turnaround for Spurs, who were without key defenders and had lost their previous match to Ipswich.
The defeat was Manchester City’s worst home loss since 2003 and marked the first time they have lost three consecutive Premier League games under Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager had signed a two-year contract extension just 48 hours prior to the match.
Tottenham’s win moves them up to sixth in the table, while Manchester City remain in second, albeit with Liverpool poised to stretch their lead at the top to eight points if they win at Southampton on Sunday.
