New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his confidence in his ability to turn the club’s fortunes around, despite acknowledging the size of the task facing him.
The 39-year-old Portuguese, who signed a two-and-a-half-year deal earlier this month, believes he is the “right man” for the job, but has cautioned that he will need time to implement his ideas.
“I’m a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and I believe in the club,” Amorim said during his first news conference as head coach. “I think we have the same idea, the same mindset and that can help.”
Amorim, who has joined United after four years at Sporting, has insisted that he will bring change in order for the club to challenge for the Premier League title again.
The club is currently 13th in the Premier League table, seven points above Sunday’s opponents Ipswich Town. Amorim has acknowledged that the team needs to improve significantly in order to compete with the top teams in the league.
“We have to change the physical aspect of the team,” he said. “I don’t know how long it will take, but we need to improve a lot to try to win the title.”
Amorim’s appointment has been seen as a significant move by the club to try to turn its fortunes around. The Portuguese coach has a reputation for being a highly motivated and innovative tactician, and his arrival has been welcomed by many United fans.
