The Nigerian government has praised Ghana for rebuilding and handing over a disputed property belonging to the High Commission of Nigeria in Accra, Ghana. The property, a block of four-bedroom flats, was demolished by Ghanaian authorities, sparking strong condemnation from Nigeria. However, following high-level engagements, Ghana promised to reconstruct the building, which has now been formally handed over.
According to a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the handing over ceremony was led by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Her Excellency Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. The Nigerian government views this gesture as a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations.
The reconstructed building embodies the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that defines the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana. Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, Director of the Foreign Service Academy in Lagos, received the keys to the building on behalf of the Nigerian government.
Analysts will see this development as a positive turn in the relations between the two West African nations, demonstrating their commitment to diplomatic resolution of disputes.
