APGA: Ezeokenwa Hails Court Victory in Leadership Battle

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa has welcomed Wednesday’s judgment by Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, declaring the recognition of Chief Edozie Njoku as APGA’s National Chairman unlawful.

The court on Wednesday ruled that there was no valid court order compelling INEC to recognize Njoku as the party leader.

At a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Ezeokenwa urged party leaders and members to view the victory as a reminder that manipulation and falsehood will ultimately fail. However, it’s worth noting that Njoku’s leadership was previously affirmed by the Supreme Court. The APGA National Secretary, Muhyideen Imam, emphasized that INEC recognized the Owerri convention that elected Njoku as chairman.

Background of the APGA Leadership Crisis

The leadership tussle within APGA has been ongoing, with conflicting court judgments and factional claims. The Supreme Court initially validated the Owerri convention that elected Njoku, but later corrected a clerical error that mistakenly named Victor Ike Oye as chairman. INEC acknowledged the correction and recognized Njoku’s leadership.

Reactions and Implications

Njoku has accused Justice Omotosho of subverting justice, while Ezeokenwa sees the judgment as a victory for the party. It however remains to be seen how the development could impact APGA’s internal dynamics and preparations for future elections.
