Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in southern Spain’s Costa del Sol region due to severe flooding caused by extreme rain. The national weather office, Aemet, has placed Malaga and Catalonia on the highest alert, warning of strong rain until Friday.

- Catalonia region in northeastern Spain
- Eastern Valencia area, still reeling from devastating flash floods that killed over 220 people
