Nigeria’s Defence Ministry Mourns Late Chief of Army Staff

Nigeria’s Defence Ministry has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff. Minister of Defence Mohammed Abubakar, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Kana joined in paying tribute to Lagbaja’s memory.

Lagbaja’s death has been described as a tremendous loss to his family, the army, and the nation. The Defence Ministry praised his professionalism and significant contributions to internal security operations across Nigeria. His commitment and dedication to serving the nation will be greatly missed.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, also conveyed his condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, and Lagbaja’s family. General Musa remembered Lagbaja as a courageous, loyal, and dedicated service chief.

Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos at the age of 56.
