Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu Sacks Defence Minister Yoav Gallant Amid “Crisis of Trust”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a “crisis of trust” between them. Gallant’s removal comes amid disagreements over Israel’s war strategy and the handling of a hostage release deal with Hamas.

Netanyahu stated that his trust in Gallant had “eroded” in recent months, with “significant gaps” discovered in their management of the campaign. Gallant had advocated for prioritizing the hostage release deal, contrary to Netanyahu’s stance.

Protests erupted in Tel Aviv, with opposition leaders calling for wider demonstrations. Gallant’s replacement, Foreign Minister Israel Katz, is seen as more hawkish on military strategy.
