INEC Nominees Await Senate Confirmation

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has made two key nominations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Lawyer Saseyi Ibiyemi has been nominated as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, while Abdulrazak Tukur has been nominated as National Commissioner representing the North West.

Ibiyemi, 58, hails from Ilaje in Ondo State and is currently the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State. Her impressive educational background includes a degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master’s in Election Management from Bingham University.

Tukur, 59, brings extensive experience to his role, having worked with INEC since 1999. He holds degrees from Bayero University, Bradford University, and Leeds University. His previous position was Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, which he held until December 2023.

Both nominees will face confirmation by the Senate. If cleared, Ibiyemi will succeed the late ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun State
