Spain Floods: PM Pedro Sanchez Vows Support After Flash Flooding Kills 62

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has reassured citizens that “we won’t abandon you” in the wake of devastating flash floods that claimed at least 62 lives in the country’s southeast. The floods, triggered by torrential rains, brought chaos to several regions, including the tourist hotspot of Chiva, near Valencia, where over a year’s worth of rain fell in just eight hours.

Flood Devastation

  • Footage on social media shows floodwaters knocking down bridges and sweeping cars away
  • Over 100,000 households are without electricity, according to local providers
  • Football matches and train services have been cancelled across the affected regions

Local authorities are warning against false information circulating on social media. The Manises City Council and the president of the Valencian government have urged citizens to rely solely on official channels for updates. José Miguel Basset, chief inspector of the Valencia Fire Department, clarified that no evacuations are taking place in L’Horta Sud.
