The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has challenged allegations by Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, that his 650,000 barrels per day refinery holds 500 million litres of premium motor spirit (petrol) for distribution.
IPMAN’s National President, Abubakar Maigandi, disputed Dangote’s claims on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, citing difficulties faced by members in loading petrol from the refinery. Despite paying N40 billion to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), marketers have been unable to collect products.
Mr. Maigandi expressed surprise at Dangote’s assertion that the refinery has sufficient stock to meet Nigeria’s needs for 12 days. He suggested direct registration of independent marketers with the refinery to facilitate smoother loading.
Dangote had urged petroleum marketers, including NNPCL, to source petrol directly from his refinery, citing production capacity of over 30 million litres daily. However, IPMAN’s experience suggests otherwise.
This development highlights tensions within Nigeria’s fuel supply chain, sparking concerns over availability and accessibility.
