Kogi State Governor Seeks Partnership to Boost Oil Exploration

Nigeria’s Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has called for a collaborative effort between his state and the federal government to accelerate investment in oil exploration. This move follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to pursue oil exploration in Nigeria’s frontier basins.Governor Ododo made the call during a visit to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, in Abuja. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors and expressed willingness to cooperate with the federal government. Senator Lokpobiri reaffirmed Kogi’s status as an oil-producing state and pledged the federal government’s support in mobilizing investments to explore the state’s vast oil deposits. The Petroleum Industry Act mandates the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to explore frontier basins.

Kogi State became Northern Nigeria’s first oil-producing state in 2022, following the federal government’s confirmation of commercial oil quantities.

Governor Ododo commended for providing good governance.
