Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, has pledged to reform the country’s correctional service, prioritizing rehabilitation, justice, and human rights.
Receiving the Phase One report from an investigative panel probing corruption and mistreatment allegations, Tunji-Ojo commended the panel’s dedication and thoroughness.
“The investigation is just the beginning. Our focus remains on comprehensive reform,” the minister stated.
Over the next year, the ministry will review the service’s activities and processes to implement far-reaching reforms, strengthening institutions and upholding transparency and accountability.
This move aims to address long-standing concerns and ensure Nigeria’s correctional service truly serves justice and rehabilitation.
