Nigeria’s Immigration Service Names Bobrisky as Person of Interest

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has identified social media influencer Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation. On Monday, NIS officers intercepted Bobrisky at the Sème border while attempting to leave the country.

Background of the Controversy

The controversy surrounding Bobrisky began in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse. Although he was officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports alleged that Bobrisky spent only three weeks in the facility before being moved to a private location, sparking speculation about bribery and special treatment.

Recent Developments

In late September 2024, social media influencer VeryDarkMan posted an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky, claiming that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, sought N10m to secure a presidential pardon. Bobrisky denied making these claims and urged the Falanas to hold VeryDarkMan accountable.

NIS Statement

The NIS stated that Bobrisky is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders.
