The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an urgent investigation into hundreds of stolen vehicles flagged on the Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform.
Key Facts:
- 612 vehicles reported stolen
- 1,610 vehicles with conflicting registration info under scrutiny
- 3 recovered, including one stolen from Abuja and found in Ilorin
- Vehicle theft syndicate busted, suspect arrested
The e-CMR, launched in July, aims to combat vehicle-related crimes. Its advanced tracking system alerted authorities when a buyer attempted to register a stolen vehicle.
“This is a significant breakthrough in our fight against vehicle theft,” said a police spokesperson. “We will continue to work with other agencies to protect citizens’ assets.”
The move follows growing concerns over vehicle theft and related crimes in Nigeria.
