Nigeria Police Crack Down on Stolen Vehicles

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an urgent investigation into hundreds of stolen vehicles flagged on the Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform.

Key Facts:

  • 612 vehicles reported stolen
  • 1,610 vehicles with conflicting registration info under scrutiny
  • 3 recovered, including one stolen from Abuja and found in Ilorin
  • Vehicle theft syndicate busted, suspect arrested

The e-CMR, launched in July, aims to combat vehicle-related crimes. Its advanced tracking system alerted authorities when a buyer attempted to register a stolen vehicle.

“This is a significant breakthrough in our fight against vehicle theft,” said a police spokesperson. “We will continue to work with other agencies to protect citizens’ assets.”

The move follows growing concerns over vehicle theft and related crimes in Nigeria.
