A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa State’s Majiya town has claimed at least 105 lives, authorities confirm.
The blast occurred Tuesday night when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University, according to the Police Public Relations Officer Shiisu Adam.
Fifty-five people were injured and hospitalized at Ringim General Hospital, with some transferred to Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu due to bed shortages. Many victims were burnt beyond recognition, prompting preparations for a mass burial.
The tanker was traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State when the tragedy struck.
