Nigerian Human Rights Lawyer Femi Falana Denies Ties to Bobrisky Amid Bribery Allegations

Femi Falana, a prominent human rights lawyer, has categorically denied any involvement with Idris Okuneye, infamously known as Bobrisky, a Nigerian crossdresser. The denial comes after blogger Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, shared an audio recording where Bobrisky claimed to have bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.

In the recording, Bobrisky also alleged that her “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, facilitated her six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of prison. VeryDarkMan further accused Falana of seeking a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million.

However, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Falana firmly rejected any connection to Bobrisky, stating, “Bobrisky never spoke to me, I have never met him, I do not know him from Adam. Falana clarified that Bobrisky had contacted his son, Folarin (Falz), seeking assistance but was rebuffed.

Falana emphasized his law firm’s history of assisting 280 convicted individuals in obtaining pardons without ever demanding or receiving payment. VeryDarkMan has since apologized to Falana for his derogatory remarks before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.

The controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s allegations has sparked heated debates and calls for investigation into the Nigerian correctional system and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
