Kogi First Lady Advocates for Women’s Empowerment

Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary was marked with a call to action from Sefinat Ododo, wife of Kogi State Governor, urging governments to protect women’s rights and support their role in nation-building. Speaking at a ceremony in Government House, Lokoja, Mrs. Sefinat emphasized women’s pivotal role in shaping society and the need to safeguard them from sexual and gender-based violence.

Governor Ododo’s administration has committed to tackling poverty, insecurity, healthcare access, and out-of-school children, Mrs. Sefinat reiterated. Her office has initiated various empowerment programs for women and girls, including:

  • Grants for Women: Over 1,000 women in small and medium businesses have received grants across the state.
  • Girl Child Education: Enhancement of education and vocational training to secure the future of young girls and women.

Hajia Sefinat praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support and empowerment programs nationwide, describing her as a “beacon of hope” for Nigerian women.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Ododo assured that Governor Ododo would not disappoint women and youths in the state. She urged men to cherish and love their female counterparts and encouraged women to support and pray for their families, husbands, and leaders.

Ahead of the local government council election, Mrs. Ododo rallied women in Kogi State to make their voices heard and vote en masse for the All Progressives Congress (APC)
