Nigeria’s Electoral Commission Presents Certificates to Edo State Governor-Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Senator Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Dennis Idahosa as the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect of Edo State, presenting them with Certificates of Return.

The ceremony, held at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, was attended by prominent figures, including:

  • National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje
  • Reinstated Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu
  • Senators, Matthew Uroghide and Francis Alimikhena
  • General Cecil Esekhaigbe (retd)

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was represented by Prof. Rhoda Gumus, who presented the certificates.

Election Results

Okpebholo, the APC candidate, secured 291,667 votes, defeating:

  • Asue Ighodalo (PDP) with 247,274 votes
  • Olumide Akpata (Labour Party) with 22,763 votes

However, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the PDP, LP, and their candidates have rejected the outcome.
