Nigeria’s Defence Minister Calls for Global Support for Terrorism Victims

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Abubakar, has urged the international community to unite in supporting victims of terrorism, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility to protect and assist those affected.

Speaking at the fifth Ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Minister Abubakar highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of terrorism victims and addressing their needs.

Key Demands:

  • Increased Protection and Assistance: Enhanced support for survivors and their communities
  • Education and Empowerment: Investment in qualitative educational opportunities to prevent recruitment and promote resilience
  • International Solidarity: Collective responsibility to support affected communities

Badaru commended the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, led by Vladimir Voronkov, for promoting international solidarity with victims. He also reiterated Nigeria’s involvement in the 2023 8th Review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, emphasizing dignity and respect for victims.

The Minister condemned terrorist groups’ targeting of schools and abduction of children, denying them access to education. Nigeria remains committed to protecting the rights of victims and supporting their needs.

This call to action comes as Nigeria and the international community strive to address the devastating impact of terrorism worldwide.
