Hezbollah deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem leads funeral prayers for a senior commander killed by an Israeli strike

Israel and Hezbollah have vowed to intensify their cross-border attacks, despite international calls for restraint, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.

Israel’s military reported over 150 rockets and projectiles fired from Lebanon overnight, with some reaching as far as Haifa. Israel responded with strikes on southern Lebanon, claiming to have destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to take “whatever action necessary” to restore security, while Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, declared the group “ready to face all military possibilities”.

At the funeral of senior Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil, killed in Israel’s Friday strike, Qassem vowed an “open reckoning” with Israel. The ceremony in Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahieh drew huge crowds, with chants of “death to America”.

Lebanese officials reported 45 fatalities, including Aqil and 15 Hezbollah fighters, as well as 30 civilians. Relatives of the victims gathered at the crater left by the Israeli strike, seeking remains.
