UAE Donates 50 Tonnes of Humanitarian Aid to Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has received 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the recent floods.

Relief Items Arrive in Abuja

The aid, consisting of basic supplies, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s cargo wing on Sunday at 2:40 pm.

UAE Ambassador Presents Donation

UAE Ambassador Salem Alshamsi presented the relief items to the Nigerian government, stating that the donation was made at the directive of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan.

“This urgent humanitarian aid is to support areas affected by the recent floods,” Alshamsi said. “The UAE is always helping nations affected by natural disasters.”

Nigeria Appreciates UAE’s Support

Dr. Ahmed Dunoma, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commended the UAE government and people for their support.

“We appreciate the UAE’s kindness, which demonstrates the excellent relationship between our countries,” Dunoma said.

NEMA to Distribute Aid

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, assured that the relief materials would be distributed to affected areas, including Borno, Enugu, and Kaduna states.

“Once cleared, these items will be shared with those affected by the flood,” Umar said.

Flood Crisis in Nigeria

According to NEMA, 29 states and 172 local government areas have been hit by flooding, affecting over 1 million people, displacing 625,239, and resulting in 259 deaths between April and September 2024.
