The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has disclosed that it purchased Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from Dangote refinery at N898 per litre. This contradicts earlier claims that the national oil company bought the product at N760 per litre.
Speaking to Daily Trust, NNPC spokesman Olufemi Soneye confirmed the price, stating, “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N760 per litre is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per litre.”
Soneye also revealed that over 70 trucks had been loaded with petrol from the refinery as of the time of filing the report.
The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, had earlier announced that NNPC would be the sole off-taker of refined petrol from Dangote refinery, which would then sell to various marketers.
The development comes as the Dangote refinery commences petrol production, with NNPC sending over 300 trucks to lift the first batch of petrol from the refinery.
