Nigeria’s Emergency Agency Distributes Food Aid to Vulnerable Persons in Akwa Ibom State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has handed over 24,180 bags of maize and 5,828 bags of garri to the Akwa Ibom State Government for distribution to vulnerable individuals. The aid package, valued at over 1,200 metric tons, aims to alleviate the impact of economic hardship in the state.

NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, stated that the exercise fulfils President Bola Tinubu’s promise to reduce the effects of the current economic challenges. The commodities will be distributed through constituted committees in each local government area, with a focus on religious organizations, boarding schools, and traditional rulers.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor, received the items on behalf of the government and thanked President Tinubu for his intervention. She assured that the state government would ensure the food aid reaches the intended beneficiaries.

This distribution is part of the federal government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of high food prices and economic hardship across the country.
