Edo State Governorship Election: INEC Chairman Assures of Credible Poll

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has assured stakeholders of a credible and transparent governorship election in Edo State.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin City, Professor Yakubu said INEC has implemented 11 out of 13 statutory activities on schedule, with only two outstanding activities remaining.

He commended the people of Edo State for their mobilization during the voter registration exercise, resulting in 184,438 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) being delivered to the state.

Professor Yakubu also announced that 134 observer groups, comprising 124 domestic and 10 international organizations, have been accredited to monitor the election.

The INEC Chairman emphasized the importance of security during the election, stating that the relevant agencies have given the necessary assurance of security.
