The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal seeking to disqualify Olumide Akpata as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the upcoming September 21 election in Edo State.
The unanimous judgment, delivered by Justice Okon Abang, held that the appellant, Kenneth Imansuangbon, failed to exhaust the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms before seeking legal action.
The court also ruled that Imansuangbon’s case was premature and lacked merit, as he failed to provide the disputed primary election results, which he claimed to have won.
This decision upholds the earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in June, which dismissed a similar suit seeking to void Akpata’s nomination.
The Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, remains cleared to contest the governorship election, as the appeal court’s judgment reaffirms his candidacy.
