Nigeria Labour Congress Demands Reversal of Petrol Price Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the federal government to immediately reverse the recent increase in petrol prices. NLC President Joe Ajaero made the demand in a statement, citing the government’s failure to heed previous warnings.

The union also demanded the release of protesters incarcerated or prosecuted for participating in recent demonstrations, as well as an end to indiscriminate arrests and detentions.

Additionally, the NLC called for a reversal of the 250% electricity tariff hike, an end to policies causing hunger and insecurity, and a halt to government’s “culture of terror, fear, and lying.”

The union threatened to take further action if the government fails to meet its demands, stating that it will not be “cowed into submission.”

Mr. Ajaero expressed disappointment and betrayal over the government’s decision to increase petrol prices, despite previous agreements to maintain the status quo.

The NLC’s demands come amid growing concerns over the government’s handling of the economy and its impact on citizens.
