Nigerian troops thwart terrorist attack in Kano

Nigerian troops have thwarted a planned terrorist attack in the northern state of Kano, arresting two suspects and seizing weapons and explosives.

A joint operation by the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) raided a terrorist hideout in Gezawa Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, November 3, 2023.

The troops recovered five AK 47 rifles, five AK 47 rifle magazines, one rocket-propelled gun, five RPG bombs, six hand grenades, five pairs of desert camouflage uniforms, 10 pairs of magazine pouches, and some improvised explosive device (IED) making materials.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, said the operation was a success thanks to the cooperation between the two agencies.

“The successful execution of the operation showed the cooperation between the two agencies,” Nwachukwu said in a statement.

The arrests and seizure of weapons and explosives are a significant victory for the Nigerian security forces in their fight against terrorism. Kano state has been a target of terrorist attacks in the past, but the latest operation shows that the security forces are determined to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
