Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Thursday present the voter register for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states to political parties participating in the polls.
A statement released on Tuesday by INEC’S National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committe, Sam Olumekun said the commission will also conduct a mock accreditation of voters in the three states on Saturday to test-run the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and upload of polling units results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
The BVAS is a new technology that will be used to accredit voters and upload results electronically. The IReV is a portal where real-time results from polling units will be uploaded.
The mock accreditation exercise will take place from 8.30am to 2.30pm in selected polling units in each state. Registered voters in the selected polling units are urged to turn up with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for the exercise.
The INEC has appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure the success of the forthcoming elections.
