Nigeria’s Electoral body announces dates for guber polls in Edo, Ondo

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the highly anticipated timetable and schedule of activities for the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

Edo State is in South South Nigeria and shares boundaries with Ondo State which is in the South West.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement signed by a National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Education and Publicity Committee of INEC, Sam Olumekun.

As the tenure of the current governors of both states draws to a close, political parties and candidates are gearing up for what promises to be a hotly contested race to the finish line.

According to the INEC timetable, the latest date for the election of the governor of Edo State is set for 12th October 2024, while that of Ondo State is scheduled for 24th January 2025.

The party primaries for both states will be held in February and April 2024, respectively, with the final list of candidates expected to be published in April and June 2024, respectively.

The electoral body has called on all political parties and candidates to comply strictly with the timetable and schedule of activities, warning that any violation would be met with severe consequences.
