Nigerian telecom regulator launches hackathon to promote innovation.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched a hackathon to promote innovation in the telecommunications sector and address industry and societal challenges.

The NCC Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon focuses on three thematic areas:Blockchain-enabled data protection solutions for enhancing regulatory compliance, assistive technology solutions for the elderly and people with disabilities and technology solutions for renewable energy in rural areas.

The competition is open to tech hubs and innovation-driven enterprises in Nigeria. The best three solutions, one from each of the three thematic areas, will receive grants of N10 million each for the development of the solutions.To be eligible to participate in the competition, enterprises must:Be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), not have previously received support from the NCC, have a project that is relevant to one of the three thematic areas, provide a clear problem statement, proposed solution, and roadmap to deployment, have a proof of concept, provide a declarative statement on ownership of the intellectual property, commit to concluding prototype development within 6 months of receipt of the grant and propose a detailed commercialization plan of the prototype.
