WIPO Launches National Design Competition in Nigeria

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Nigeria Office has launched a national design competition for professionals and students.

The competition, which is themed “IP and Sustainable Development: Designing the Nigeria of my Dreams”, challenges participants to use design to explore the relationship between intellectual property and sustainable development.

The competition is open to two categories of people: students from institutions within Abuja and design professionals in Nigeria. Entries from the student categories (primary and secondary) are restricted to drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage, while the design professionals are restricted to graphics design, including print designs, 2D or 3D illustrations, and drawing.

Entries must be submitted in soft copy to the WIPO Nigeria Office on or before September 29, 2023. Each entry must be accompanied by a valid means of identification.

The competition is part of WIPO’s efforts to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in design and sustainable development. Intellectual property can help to protect and promote innovative designs, which can in turn contribute to economic growth and sustainable development.

The winners of the competition will be announced in October 2023. The first-place winners in each category will receive a cash prize of 1 million Nigerian naira (about $2,500).

The competition is a great opportunity for young people and design professionals in Nigeria to showcase their creativity and contribute to the development of a more sustainable future for the country.
