NCC confirms MAFAB has launched 5G services in Nigeria

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has dismissed claims that MAFAB Communications has not yet launched 5G services in Nigeria.

The NCC said that MAFAB is one of two companies that won a 5G licence in a transparent auction in December 2021. The company paid the licence fee of $273.6 million in February 2022 and received the licence on February 22, 2022.

The NCC said that MAFAB publicly launched its 5G services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on January 26, 2023. The services are currently available in six cities: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.

The NCC statement was signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC.

Muoka said that the NCC has been monitoring the progress of MAFAB’s rollout and has been briefed about the status of infrastructure deployment.

He urged the public to ignore false and misleading information about MAFAB’s 5G rollout.
