Nigerian Communications Commission Warns of Fake LinkedIn Account Impersonating Executive Vice Chairman

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned the public about a fake LinkedIn account that is impersonating the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta.

The fake account was created by unscrupulous individuals with the intention of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. The NCC said that the EVC does not have a LinkedIn account, and that any account that claims to be his is fake.

The NCC is working with security agencies to investigate the source of the fake account and to bring the perpetrators to justice. In the meantime, the commission is urging members of the public to be cautious when using social media, and to be aware of the dangers of fake accounts.

The NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, said that the commission has a presence on the internet with an official website and social media accounts. He urged members of the public to only follow the commission’s official social media accounts for credible updates and announcements.

“We advise members of the public to be carefully guided when accessing or using information from social media,” Muoka said. “If you are unsure about the authenticity of an account, you can always contact the commission directly.”

The NCC’s warning comes as there has been an increase in the number of fake social media accounts being used to defraud people.

In recent months, there have been reports of people being scammed out of money after being contacted by fake accounts that claim to be from legitimate businesses or organizations.
