Nigeria will celebrate its 17th National Diaspora Day on July 25-26, 2023, in Abuja.
The event, which is organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), will focus on the theme of “Consolidating Diaspora Engagement for National Development.”
Over 17 million Nigerians live abroad, and they make significant contributions to the country’s economy through remittances, investments, and skills transfer.
The Chairman of NiDCOM Abike Dabiri-Erewa on Wednesday expressed hopes that the National Diaspora Day will help to strengthen ties between Nigeria and its diaspora community, and to encourage more Nigerians to invest in their homeland. According to her, the event will feature a variety of activities, including a presidential address, a panel discussion, a celebrity interview segment, and a presentation by the State Diaspora Focal Point Officers (SDFPOs).
The Vice Chairman Europe of the delegation of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Omusa Ohuoma in his comments promised to deliver the best Diaspora Day event ever. He also commented Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa for her commitment and leadership of the Commission.
There will also be a first-time Diaspora Merit Awards in various sectors, including Global Diaspora Icon, Education, Engineering, Medicine & Healthcare, ICT, Philanthropy, Humanitarian and Leadership.
The National Diaspora Day is an important opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora, and to discuss ways to further engage them in Nigeria’s development.
The NiDCOM hopes that the event will help to build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria that benefits from the mutual strength and prowess of its sons and daughters, home and abroad.
