The mother of a 17-year-old shot dead by police is leading a march in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre.
The teenager, named as Nahel M, was shot at point-blank range as he refused a traffic stop and drove away.
The police officer who shot him has been placed under formal investigation for voluntary homicide.
Earlier, it was announced that 40,000 police officers would be deployed across France to deal with protests that broke out after the fatal shooting.
French President Emmanuel Macron has held a crisis meeting and called the violence on the streets “unjustifiable” in appealing for calm.
At least 180 people have been arrested so far after two nights of unrest, while 170 officers were injured, France’s interior minister says.
