Nigeria’s new service chiefs vow respect for human rights

Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs have pledged to prioritize human rights and put an end to the insecurity plaguing the West African country.

Nigeria has multifaceted security challenges including kidnapping for ransom, farmers-herders clashes and a Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast.

During a visit to the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa spoke on behalf of his colleagues, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and respect for human rights in carrying out their constitutional duties.

Major General Musa urged citizens to view the Armed forces as their own and promised to work towards a peaceful Nigeria that future generations can be proud of.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ibrahim Kana, also highlighted the government’s efforts to reform the military, including the establishment of Octagon.
