The governor of Nigeria’s Northwest state of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the state’s Accountant-General to stop the salaries of 10,800 workers employed by his predecessor, Umar Ganduje.
Governor Yusuf accused Mr. Ganduje’s government of illegally employing over 10,000 workers when he was about to conclude his final term in office.
The Accountant General, Abdulkadir Abdusalam, stated that the governor ordered his office to remove the workers from the state’s payroll and investigate their engagement and procedures to remove those illegally recruited.
Local Government workers converted to state workers by the former administration will continue receiving their salaries but based on Local Government levels.
They are directed to continue working in their new state’s MDAs until the investigation is concluded.
