SALARIES INCREASE: Nigeria’s Presidency debunks rumours.

The Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications & Strategy to Nigeria’s President, Dele Alake, has debunked rumors of a salary increase for political office holders and judicial officers in Africa’s largest democracy.

This comes a day after stories circulated on social media of an increase in salaries and allowances of political office holders including the President.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Mr. Alake stated that President Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration. He further noted that while the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has the constitutional mandate to propose and fix salaries and allowances of political office holders and judicial officers, such proposals cannot come into effect until they have been considered and approved by the president.

Mr. Alake urged journalists and media managers to always cross-check their stories to ensure accurate reportage, which is the hallmark of responsible journalism.
