Nigeria’s secret police confirms ousted Central bank chief is in its custody (VIDEO)

Nigeria’s secret police on Saturday confirmed the country’s ousted Central bank governor is in its custody.

This came hours after his suspension by the President was announced.

A statement by the Department of State Serviced said:

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.”

A video (which we cannot independently verify) which is now trending appears to show Godwin Emefiele being led into a waiting private jet at an airport. It is not clear which Nigerian airport it is.

No specific charge has been brought against Mr. Emefiele who supervised a highly controversial currency swap policy and the re-design of the country’s currency, the naira.

He was appointed to head the central bank in 2014.
