Nigeria’s police chief on Monday ordered his men to give the needed protection to labour unions who are billed to begin a strike on Wednesday.
Usman Alkali Baba also ordered that all peaceful protests must be managed professionally.
The police boss said this when he met with Senior Police Officers at the Force Headquarters in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
Protests in Nigeria often start peacefully before degenerating into violence.
The police have often come under severe criticisms for their tactics in dealing with protesters.
